At the end of last year American online music database AllMusic published its TOP100 list of the best albums of 2020! The list consists of albums of different styles and genres, created by such popular musicians as AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift, Bob Dylan.
Next to the aforementioned musicians this selection also features the album of choral music Aeternum by Jēkabs Jančevskis, released in March of 2020. The album was recorded by Mixed Choir of Riga Cathedral Choir School with Jurģis Cābulis as conductor.
On the subject of album Aeternum music critic James Manheim has said the following: “Composer Jēkabs Jančevskis is known in the Baltic countries but will be new for many listeners elsewhere. His music represents a major new development in the Baltic choral tradition that has remade the world of choral music since the 1970s.[..] Jančevskis’ music is, thus, both lush and thought-provoking, and it receives splendid performances here from the Mixed Choir of the Riga Cathedral Choral School, a group that listeners will certainly come to know better. Hyperion Records ‘s sound, from a Riga studio, is extraordinary.”.
