March of 2020 marks the release of Jēkabs Jančevskis album of choral music Aeternum, recorded in 2019 by Mixed Choir of Riga Cathedral Choir School with Jurģis Cābulis as conductor. The album was released at one of the world’s most prestigious record labels for classical music Hyperion Records and can be bought, downloaded and streamed right now!
Here is what Jēkabs says about the new album: “My first album of choral music was created during a very special period of time and by coincidence. During the recording sessions the Mixed Choir of Riga Cathedral Choir School gives a high-quality performance, with their sound reaching the ideals of youthfulness and serenity. Their educated voices are convincing during solos and masterfully intertwine during tutti sections. This is complemented by professional performances of musicians recognized both in Latvia and internationally, with each of their bright identities shining through the compositions of the album. Working with conductor Jurģis Cābulis is an especially successful choice [..]. We are very good friends and when it comes to music, we understand each other from half a word. Where necessary, his gestures have given my music strength, softness, and dramatic characteristics, as well as a cool abstinence, if it is applicable. That is how our common search for new adventures and absence of fear to take risks has lead us to one of the biggest and most prestigious record labels for classical music, which expressed a desire to release and popularize the finished product of our collaboration.”
Conductor Jurģis Cābulis: “The music of Jančevskis is emotionally mature yet conceptually fresh and especially relevant in the whirlpool created by our always present lack of time.”
